When the LA County Sheriff decided to
move their headquarters facility, they selected a normal office building for its location
and lease rate. Unfortunately, the HVAC
systems were not sized to accommodate the 10 to 15 Watts per square foot electrical load
imposed by copious use of computers, network equipment, radios, monitoring and simulation
equipment needed by the Sheriff.
We converted
the HVAC system from a normal air temperature system to a low temperature air
system, capable of meeting peak loads by providing supply air as cold as 44°F as needed.
The
conversion to Low Temperature Air reduced installed fan horsepower requirements by 60%,
reduced the first cost of the retrofit by approximately $450,000 when compared to the
alternate solutions, and allowed the Sheriff to move into their new building as per their
desired schedule. |
