In areas where there are a substantial number of operating hours during mild ambient conditions, Mixed Mode ventilation designs, when applied properly, can reduce operating expenses.  If a window is opened up, the HVAC services to that area must be shut down, otherwise substantial energy waste can occur, as conditioned air blows out of the building.
