Underfloor air distribution, once the sole domain of the data center HVAC system, is now becoming mainstream for office facility designers as well.  “New” concepts are being promoted by many vendors and engineers, and many of these vendors and engineers take their clients for site tours of the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) Customer Service Center. 

ROI was a member of the consulting team brought to Sacramento by SMUD to maximize the energy efficiency of the HVAC systems and provide training to the local engineering community.  We were involved in the design and Commissioning of these underfloor air systems, and have intimate knowledge of their proper application.

Underfloor air, when applied correctly, can reduce operating costs,  improve indoor air quality and boost occupant comfort and satisfaction.  Applied wrong, it has the potential for just the opposite effect.
